Larry Bird

Larry Bird was one of the first bands to inspire New Hampshire's indie scene, and were a magical twinkling dreamboat among their peers. Ask anyone who went to a Larry Bird show in the early 00's, and they will strongly agree. Soothing vocals, pretty guitars, precise drumming, and a good dose of heavier buildups make Larry Bird a fun listen. Below is their discography. Special thanks goes out to Steve from Larry Bird for hooking me up with the tracks. Peep the links for Call Her Alaska and The Big Sky for more of his phenomenal drum work.

Agoraphobic Nosebleed

Agoraphobic Nosebleed....they are the soundtrack for the apocalypse for starters.  Formed in Springfield, Ma, 1994, guitarist Scott Hull constructed this manic, industrial, drum-machine driven, digital grind dream.  Genius A.D.D. songwriting is ever-so challenging to follow, but that's the brilliance of if.  It's a grindcore orchestra filled with dark, eerie noise, incredible guitar-work, scowling shrieks, and ridiculously crafted drum programming that's all conducted perfectly.  They have an intimidatingly crazy amount of material, but I did my best gathering most of it.  Snag it all below.  DIG.

Man Is The Bastard

Man Is The Bastard is considered as one of the most influential and overall creative powerviolence bands in the history of the genre.  Intricate songwriting that is as clever as it is brutally challenging.  They create absolute chaos that is smart, fresh, fierce and definitely original.  From 1991-1997, these bastards brought hardcore punk to an entirely different level that many bands have tried to duplicate, but have never topped.  This band is simply amazing!  MITB mixes industrial noise and effects along with plenty of experimentation with bass chords/scales and crusty, doom-like breaks.  They've really got it all! Rapid speeds, harsh vocals, destructive shredding and a damn-good message.  Below is everything I could dig up from them.  DIG!!

6:37

This short-lived four-piece outfit was nothing short of phenomenal. Having seen 6:37 live once or twice, I can say these guys were true musicians who had no need to use words. Plucking a string, playing the piano or hitting a drum was enough. Probably one of New Hampshire's best bands when they were active. Also, check out Early Birds if you really enjoy this. They pretty much started where 6:37 left off.

Chainsaw To The Face

Brace yourself, Chainsaw To The Face will shred your soul to bloody lil' bits!  Hailing from New Jersey, these guys play an unbelievably fast and powerful concoction of grindcore and powerviolence.  They're technical as hell without being mathy and filled with blazing riffs, crack-head-like drum speeds, stop-on-a-dime signatures & beefy growls/grunts filled with anger and pure insanity!  CTTF is sheer chaos and destruction that is sure to raise some eyebrows.  All of they're material is definitely worthy of any grind/punk fan's time.  Below is the band's newer Self-Titled 7" that was dropped in 2010 along with a CD Collection entitled "Agonizing Pain And Perpetual Misery" which included all of the band's recorded material from 2004-2009.  Enjoy the madness...DIG!

TRAP THEM

Trap Them is my personal favorite Metal/Hardcore band to ever hit the scene.  They construct a flawless blend of extreme genre's including grindcore, death metal, hardcore and punk.  Since they recently picked up the old drummer of Coliseum, I really feel that they've tightened up and perfected their overall sound.  Everything about this band is simply amazing!  I know everyone should have this material already, but I'm mainly making this post for their early, hard-to-find track called "Cockrubbing With Cancer Sticks" that was featured on the People Don't Take Photographs Of Things They Want To Forget Comp. 7".  This track was recorded in the band's earlier days when they had a drum-machine and went by the name Trap Them And Kill Them.  The track sounds like an earlier worked version of the song "Collapse And Marathon" from their Sleepwell Deconstructor LP, and is equally kick-ass!  Snag everything from Trap Them below.... if you haven't been jammin' face to them already.  DIG!!!

Torrington

Torrington was a hardcore super-group consisting of Will Killingsworth and Meghan of Ampere and the vocalist, bassist and drummer of The Cancer Kids.  These masters of punk create some sick ragers that will surely beat the shit out of you.  Fierce dual male/female vocals are belted out over crusty hardcore punk that is plain devastating.  Fast, maniacal and fucking awesome.  The No Mercy For Bastards 7" is their one-and-only release that will definitely slap a nice ole' grin on your face.  Snag this now! You will not be disappointed!  DIG!!

Mehkago N.T.

My Photos by
Mehkago N.T. is a nasty hardcore band from the Miami area that existed from 2006-2011.  These MoFo's play an extreme mix of heavy-duty hardcore, d-beat, grindcore and even some elements of death metal.  They are fucking PULVERIZING!  Dark, fast, sludgy and especially brutal.  Hands down, probably one of the most punishing hardcore acts... period!  The band released a long-awaited LP this year right before their demise.  Bummer they're all done, but they sure did leave some gold behind.  Snag their entire discography below.  DIG THIS SHIT DEEP!!  DIG!!!

The Living City

In September, 2011 something happened. The Living City, came out of nowhere and dropped a three-song demo that's impossible to hate. Born and bred in Mass, The Living City's first effort sounds like they've been together for years. Their song's are fairly long for the indie twinkle vibe they give out, but they keep it fresh by adding fun build ups along with some catchy guitar riffs. Vocals are soothing as a kind whisper to your ears that eventually ease into belting bliss. This guy has the range to give anyone goosebumps. If you're in the new england area, peep one of their shows to experience all the indie goodness. Their demo is below for download.
